Plank Audio wanted a lower carbon, faster site. As well as this they wanted the site to stay the same both visually and functionally. The site was a Wordpress.com hosted site which presented some challenges but also opportunities.
The initial audit discovered that large images and unused CSS code was causing site performance and speed issues. Images were converted to modern web formats and reduced in size and unused CSS code was removed. The tools used were a combination of Wordpress plugins and web performance tools.
The result was a faster loading and more responsive site with significantly lower carbon footprint per view. The look and functionality of the site did not change in the process.

- Overall Desktop: from 65 to 89
- Overall Mobile: from 38 to 63
Carbon reduction
- Carbon produced per page view (Home page) From 6.7g to 0.748g
Images
- Large images were reduced in size by up to 98%
Stylesheets
- 48 CSS stylesheets were reduced to 3 Combined size of 311kb reduced to 62kb or by 80%
- Significantly improved Google lighthouse scores
